6 Best Utensils for Ceramic Cookware

The main thing you must keep in mind when you’re looking for the best utensils for ceramic cookware is that this is a non-stick coating.

Thus, if you already own utensils that don’t scratch non-stick coatings, then you really don’t need to buy any new ones. Unless you really want a new amazing set of cooking utensils. Those of us who cook frequently can also appreciate a new set as a gift.

So, which are some of these utensils that you might already have in the kitchen?

Basically, I love cooking with any spatulas, spoons, kitchen tongs, etc. that are made of wood and silicone.

However, wood and silicone are not the only materials that you can pick when you’re looking for the best utensils for ceramic cookware.

Another option is nylon cooking utensils. But I must confess that I don’t really like nylon utensils because they’re not as highly heat resistant.

As you can see, anything that is not made of metal is perfect.

I don’t even use metal cooking utensils on my stainless steel cookware because even stainless steel can end up with very tiny scratches from metal spoons and spatulas. I do use a stainless steel ladle but I make sure not to scratch the bottom or walls with it.

Best Utensils for Ceramic Cookware Reviews

best utensils for ceramic cookware

We’ve established that we need to look for wood, nylon, plastic or silicone cooking utensils when we’re dealing with non-stick coatings like ceramic, granite, teflon, and even when we’re using our stainless steel pans and pots.

By the way, since I’ve mentioned all these different types of cookware, I also want to answer a quick question. Can you use metal utensils on cast iron? According to Lodge, we can.

It makes sense because it’s the most durable material but cast iron must always be seasoned properly.

With that figured out, let’s review some amazing sets and maybe even some individual pieces.

1. GIR Premium Silicone Mini Flipper/Turner

One thing you must know when shopping for the best utensils for ceramic cookware is that if you buy individual pieces, the prices usually start at around $10, which is the range where the GIR Premium Silicone Mini Flipper/Turner also finds itself.

Most individual utensils are sold for $10-$15.

On the other hand, you’re going to find sets consisting of 20-30 pieces that are sold for $30 or a bit more.

Still, I prefer buying individual cooking utensils and that’s how I end up with an assortment of wood, silicone and metal tools.

I also believe that sets of 30 pieces that are sold for $30-$40 are just not that well-made.

Frankly, they’re just too cheap to be durable. Of course, there’s always the possibility that I’m totally wrong.

However, if we check out kitchen utensil sets from OXO, we’re going to see that a set of 15 pieces is priced at almost $150. We’re going to review it and see what we get for that high amount of money.

For now, let me get back at talking about the GIR Premium Silicone Mini Flipper/Turner.

Features

This mini silicone turner from GIR is described as being an award winning silicone turner for non-stick cookware.

It has a sharply angled blade and paper-thin edge.

It is ideal as an egg tuner, for omelets, as a pancake spatula, etc.

Many people have declared that this mini turner has become their favorite kitchen tool. It’s tiny but it will take on a large role in your cooking.

It has a length of 10.9 inches and a width of 2.6 inches.

This tiny turner is made of 550 degrees F heat-resistant platinum grade silicone.

There’s also a proprietary fiberglass core that has superior heat resistance compared to tools with metal core.

2. OXO Good Grips 15-Piece Utensil Set: Overall the Best Utensils for Ceramic Cookware

Have you ever thought about having 15 essential kitchen tools in one neat set that costs almost as much as some ceramic cookware sets?

Then, OXO has you covered.

As I’ve mentioned, I’m not exactly a fan of $30 sets that feature 30+ pieces. I don’t think they can last long and I’ve spent hours searching for an affordable complete and complex cooking utensils set without coming up with anything. Maybe you’ll have better luck.

In my opinion, if you’re looking to make an investment into the best utensils for ceramic cookware and more, then this set from OXO deserves your attention.

On the other hand, if you don’t have a big budget, then I recommend buying individual tools or buy smaller sets made up of 3-6 pieces.

For example, you could buy something like the GIR Premium Silicone Mini Flipper/Turner and pair it with a set of tongs and maybe some wooden spoons or smaller silicone sets made up of 3-4 pieces.

Components

Since this OXO Utensil set is made up of 15 pieces, let’s see what we pay all that money for:

  • flexible turner
  • 12-inch tongs
  • square turner
  • spoon
  • slotted spoon
  • spatula
  • grater
  • swivel peeler
  • ice cream scoop
  • potato masher
  • can opener
  • balloon whisk
  • meat tenderizer
  • pizza wheel

The final piece is represented by a holder to place all these 14 cooking utensils. It includes a removable drip tray and it’s dishwasher-safe.

I should also mention that the spatulas and the spoon and the 12 inch tongs are made of nylon and silicone.

These are safe for non-stick surfaces and they’re heat resistant up to 400 degrees F.

The other tools, like the potato masher, the pizza cutter, the whisk, the peeler, etc. are made of stainless steel.

Each of them has a soft, non-slip grip for comfort.

All in all, this OXO Utensil Set is a good purchase if you have the budget for it and if you’re lacking most of the tools that this set includes.

If you already own most of them and you’re satisfied with how they work, then this utensils set from OXO would only manage to duplicate most of the tools you might already own and use.

3. OXO Good Grips 12-Inch Tongs with Silicone Head

One of my most used tools in the kitchen might be my pair of tongs. I have a lot of nonstick pans so it’s essential to use tongs with a silicone head or wooden tongs.

Wooden tongs seem to break easily nowadays. I have a pair of them bought from some store maybe almost 10 years ago. They don’t have any brand name on them and I seriously can’t find them anywhere online so I can’t recommend them to you.

The next best thing I can do is to review the ones from OXO with silicone head.

OXO also has 9-inch locking tongs with nylon heads, which also sound really great and they’re even more popular but I like the idea of silicone a bit better. But you can also check out the 9-inch pair of tongs from them.

Features

The OXO Good Grips 12-Inch Tongs is made from sturdy stainless steel with silicone heads.

The scalloped, angled heads are heat resistant up to 600 degrees F.

They’re definitely safe for non-stick cookware, whether it’s granite, ceramic or teflon-coated.

There’s also a soft, non-slip handle that features comfortable thumb rests.

The tongs lock closed for no-fuss storage.

They’re dishwasher safe.

One last thing that I should bring to your attention is that some users have mentioned that the stainless steel body of these tongs has some tiny unfinished touches.

Other users have mentioned that this OXO pair of tongs is definitely made to last and made very well but that the silicone head doesn’t grip food that easily and some foods can be slippery.

Overall, I believe that they’re some of the best tongs for nonstick cookware. They’re made to last and you’ll get used to using them very quickly.

4. Cook with Color Silicone Cooking Utensils, 5 Pieces: Cheap Utensils for Ceramic Cookware

This is a really cheap set. Given that we receive 5 pieces in this set, the price for each tool will end up costing about $5.

Is it perfect? No. There are a few negative reviews and a few complaints but I believe that we couldn’t do better for the price.

I really like these sets from Cook with Color. And I’m quite impressed with the quality they offer.

Those of you who are only looking for a few cooking tools in a set, might be quite pleased with what Cook with Color offers.

Components

We get:

  • 11 inches tong
  • 10.5 inches spoonula
  • 10.5 inches spoon
  • 11 inches spatula
  • 10 inches whisk

They’re all made from 100% FDA-approved premium silicone. They’re heat resistant up to 400 degrees F.

Each tool also includes a stainless steel handle that fits standard kitchen hooks.

We get a whole range of colors to choose from, which I really like: black, gray, mint, navy, pink, red, and white.

5. Woodenhouse Wooden Cooking Utensils Set, 8 Pieces: Best Wooden Utensils for Ceramic Cookware

We’ve talked about silicone cooking utensils quite extensively but we didn’t cover any wooden cooking utensils for nonstick cookware.

This is a pretty expensive wooden kitchen utensil set. There certainly are much cheaper ones but I believe this one from Woodenhouse to be one of the best.

Components

Let’s see what we get for the money, we get 6 cooking utensils to be excited about:

  • 13 inches large turner
  • 12.5 inches spatula
  • 12.4 inches skimmer
  • 10.6 inches soup ladle
  • 10.2 inches fork spoon
  • 9.5 inches serving spoon

The other 2 pieces are represented by a holder and a spoon rest. We also get stainless steel hooks if you don’t want to use the holder.

The holder is pretty tiny. Make sure not to tip the whole thing over when you remove one of these wooden tools.

I must say that I’m impressed with the variety that these wooden utensils offer in these 6 main pieces.

The set is described as being eco-friendly and handcrafted. They’re made from high quality premium teak wood. They certainly look beautiful.

But what you should know about wooden utensils is that they’re not as thin as those made of silicone. Although, the edges of the turner and spatula in this set manage to be quick thin, being good even for when you’re making crepes.

Wooden utensils can also be prone to staining and cracking.

Moreover, don’t wash wooden tools in the dishwasher if you want to prevent cracking. Wash them by hand with soap and water. Let them air dry before storage.

It’s also recommended to maintain the pieces with a coating of mineral oil to prolong the smooth feeling.

6. Le Creuset Sauté Spoon

Have you ever thought of spending about $30 on a sauté spoon? Then you’re in luck because Le Creuset has thought of selling one.

Let me be honest. Would I buy it? I wouldn’t really pay that much money on a sauté spoon, no matter what brand is selling it.

I know Le Creuset is pretty much the most famous brand for Dutch ovens but I’ve always been more partial towards Lodge because they’re selling Dutch ovens that most of us can afford.

It’s the same thing with this sauté spoon. I’d prefer buying a cheaper no-name than spending so much on a Le Creuset one.

Nevertheless, not everyone thinks like me so let’s see what this spoon’s all about.

Features

It’s a sauté spoon that measures 13.5 x 2.5 inches.

The material is being described as being glass-filled nylon and silicone.

Glass-filled nylon is a synthetic polyamide thermoplastic. It’s famous for its strength and heat resistance.

It’s certainly an interesting material and we don’t often hear of glass-filled nylon when we’re talking about kitchen tools.

Thus, we have a core made of glass-filled nylon and the edges are made of silicone.

This silicone edge, red in color, is acting as the spatula part of the spoon. If we remove the red edge, we’re left with something similar to a wooden spoon.

On top of that, the silicone edge also provides superior heat resistance. It’s also the one that offers flexible edges.

This sauce spoon provides rigidity and strength to lift and turn heavy foods.

The curved handle helps un scooping over pan/pot side walls.

Le Creuset Sauté Spoon is heat resistant up to 482 degrees F. And it’s dishwasher safe but it’s recommended to wash it in hot, soapy water when we receive it, before using it for the first time.

Is silicone or nylon better for cooking utensils?

Silicone is considered to be a better option for cooking utensils because it is more durable and heat-resistant.

Of course, we could also say that any spatula, whether silicone, plastic or nylon, can melt a bit at a very high temperature.

On the other hand, nylon spatulas are more prone to melting on a very hot pan. Thus, silicone is the preferred material for many of us.

Rubber silicone is the form of silicone that is used to make kitchenware. It is a type of a synthetic polymer that is more heat resistant than other organic polymers.

We also have silicone pans for air fryers and silicone bakeware molds for ovens. As you can see, silicone is heat resistant and durable.

What we might say about nylon kitchen utensils is that they might be cheaper but, with the possibility of melting at high temperatures, I don’t know if they’re worth considering as some of the best utensils for ceramic cookware.
